Pupil Premium
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium was set up in April 2011 and is an additional funding system for schools. It is designed to support disadvantaged students and narrow the achievement gap between them and their peers.
Which students benefit from the Pupil Premium?
- Students in years 7 to 11 who received Free School Meals (FSM) or who have done so at any stage in the last 6 years (Ever 6 FSM)
- Looked-after children (LAC) defined in the Children Act 1989 as one who is in the care of, or provided with accommodation by, an English local authority
- Children who have ceased to be looked after by a local authority in England and Wales because of adoption, a special guardianship order, a child arrangements order or a residence order
In addition, pupils in years 7 to 11 recorded as ‘Ever 5 Service Child’ (a child who has a parent in the Forces or who has had so at any time in the last 5 years) or in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence, receive Pupil Premium funding.
Pupil Premium funding is allocated to close the gap between ‘disadvantaged’ students and those in the ‘Other’ / Never 6 group.
How will this school use this funding?
We use the Pupil Premium to address underlying inequalities between disadvantaged students and their peers. This funding helps us to give extra educational support and raise the standard of achievement for eligible students.
We aim to make sure this extra funding reaches the students who need it most and makes a significant impact on their education and lives.
How is funding paid to this school?
The Education Funding Agency (EFA) pays Pupil Premium directly to our school.
Who decides on how the funding is used?
We have agreed a policy and protocols for Pupil Premium between our Headteacher and Governing Body. This is to guide us on how we use this extra funding and to make sure it delivers value for money.
Our Headteacher and Leadership Team will regularly and carefully monitor, evaluate and review these strategies. We will then report back to the governing body on the progress and impact of the Pupil Premium.
