Key Stage 3 overview

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

We teach Key Stage 3 (KS3) in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. Our students study the core subjects of:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • ICT and Computing
  • PSHCEE & Citizenship
  • Expressive Arts (Art & Design, Drama and Music)
  • The Humanities (History, Geography and Religious Education)
  • Modern Foreign Languages (French or German)
  • Physical Education
  • Technology

In Maths and English students begin their GCSE course in Year 9 so that the skills and content are developed over the three years.  In Science students complete the KS3 programme of study at Christmas of Year 9 and are then set based on prior attainment. Throughout the remainder of Year 9, all students follow the same programme of study, which is differentiated to their abilities. During this time students can choose whether to follow the AQA Double Award science course, or take separate GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics.
