In a nutshell, Classical Civilisation is an all-embracing humanities subject that gives students an experience of literature, mythology, history, drama, philosophy, psychology and sociology.
Key Stage 5
We offer Classical Civilisation as an option for students in Key Stage 5. It is a very popular course within The Consortium with consistently excellent outcomes. Students do not need to have studied Classics at GCSE to take the A Level course.
This A Level course involves the study of works of major Greek and Roman authors in translation and is split into four sections:
• Homer’s Odyssey and Society
• Greek Tragedy
• Greek and Roman Comedy
• Virgil and the World of the Roman Hero

The course provides an all-round humanities subject and is a perfect complement to other arts subjects. It is one of the fastest growing degree subjects at university and can lead to a wide range of careers.
