    Distraction Free Learning

We aim to provide a distraction-free learning environment.

We know that our working memory can only store so much information, so we care not to overload it. By providing a small amount of information at a time and streamlining our common instructional language, we ensure that our students can remain focused.

We believe that knowledge builds on knowledge, so we activate existing knowledge in retrieval practice at the start of each lesson. We check for understanding throughout the lessons and encourage students to ask questions and engage their enquiring minds.

We know that our time in lessons is limited. We have high expectations so our students can concentrate on what matters. We use praise and positive framing to spur them on and a WARN – MOVE – REMOVE system if behaviour is not exemplary. We know that motivation is needed for learning, so we focus our praise on effort and we scaffold tasks so students can access challenging concepts with the support they need.
