Music & Music Technology

Welcome to the Music Department at Cottingham High School!

Situated in the performing arts building, Music has two main teaching rooms, two purpose built en-suite practice rooms and a spacious recording studio.

Having been identified as strength of the school, in two subsequent Ofsted inspections, we have made a substantial investment in Music, to ensure that we have the best resources in the East riding.

Our full time staff ensure that all students have a practical involvement in Music, through a variety of performing, composing and aural activities. Typically, our students easily achieve the standards required at key stage 3 and frequently exceed them.

GCSE music is well subscribed, with students frequently achieving a 75% A-C grade average. 100% A – G pass rates are the norm.

At ‘A’ level, we currently offer a course in Music Technology. Again standards are high, most recently we have achieved a 100% A-C pass rate at AS, a 75% A-C pass rate at A2, with a 100% A-E pass rate at both levels.

Working in associating with the superb team of peripatetic teachers from the East Riding Schools Music Service, 10% of the student population receive additional instrumental tuition. Annually, our students achieve outstanding success in Associated board and Guildhall music examinations.

Extra – curricular activities include Choirs, Orchestra, Swingband, Concert band, Soulband, Brass ensemble, Woodwind ensemble, Rockbands, Percussion ensemble and a multitude of smaller groups. There are two concerts per year and recitals for soloists and small ensembles. We have also collaborated with the other subjects in the expressive arts faculty to produce performances of ‘South Pacific’ and ‘Oliver’.
