What is media?
In general, “media” refers to various means of communication. For example, television, radio, and the newspaper are different types of media.

GCSE Media Studies offers you the opportunity to explore media in an integrated way.
BTEC First Award Media Production Level 2
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Media has been developed:
· to give you the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of employment opportunities, job requirements, and working practices in the media industry
· to enable you to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a sector (or sectors) of the media industry
· to provide a qualification which will enable progression to further study, training, or employment
· to enable you to make informed choices with regard to a career in the media industry
· to develop media technology skills that may be applicable in other work situations.
Creative and Media Diploma Level 2
The Creative and Media Diploma provides experiential learning for you so that you can acquire knowledge and develop skills in the broad context of the Creative and Media industries. This Diploma gives you the opportunity:
· to discover more about the Creative and Media industries
· to explore creativity
· to develop their skills and apply them creatively
AS and A2 Media Studies
Unit 1 and Unit 2 provide an integrated and complementary introduction to the study of the media and the contemporary media landscape. The content of both units is underpinned by a set of key media concepts and media platforms.
At A2 candidates will build on their AS work to look more fully at the contexts of media production and consumption – why as well as how texts are created as they are.
AS and A2 Film Studies
The AS/A specification in Film Studies is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film, the major art form of the twentieth century, and one developing new modes of expression and exhibition in the first decades of the twenty-first century. The specification builds on the cineliteracy you have developed informally since childhood. You will study film deriving from a variety of production contexts and experienced in a variety of viewing situations. You will also engage with a wide range of different kinds of films, developing skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection, as well as developing your creativity and practical skills, either in audio-visual or written form. A variety of forms of assessment are used, with the intention of producing imaginative, active learners.
BTEC National Award in Media Production (Film and Television) Level 3
The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Media Production have been developed in the media sector to focus on:
· providing vocationally related education and training for those who are intending to work or who already work in the media industries
· providing opportunities for you to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationally specific qualification either to enter employment in the media industries or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications
· providing opportunities for you to develop skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to the media industries in an applied learning context
· giving you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
