ICT
The ICT department offers extensive facilities for students to use in their ICT lessons and across the curriculum. Our aim to give students the skills needed to confidently embrace new technologies both within school and in the wider community. It is expected that students see ICT as a transferable skill across the curriculum and this is particularly evident in the contribution to the exciting Media Arts Projects.
Students are given the opportunity to learn a number of different software packages and apply the skills to different situations. These include Spreadsheets, Databases, Desktop Publishing, Presentation and Control Software. Students also develop their knowledge of different hardware having the opportunity to use digital voice recorders, cameras, video cameras and scanners.
At Key Stage 4 all students follow the Award in Digital Applications; this is a highly successful course with many students exceeding their target grade. Students who wish to specialise in the subject have the opportunity to choose a vocational route, studying the Certificate in Digital Applications (Multimedia); or a traditional GCSE in Information and Communication Technology. From 2010 the department will be offering the Diploma in IT, this is an exciting vocational qualification giving students the opportunity to find out more about IT in the work place. At Key Stage 5 there is the opportunity to study ICT at AS and A2 levels.
