THE Shell Eco-marathon is a two-day competition at Rockingham Speedway, Northamptonshire, which involves designing and manufacturing an eco-car. The car has to complete seven laps of the speedway circuit at an average speed of 15mph. Each team is given six attempts to achieve their best MPG. This year’s team, the EcoTurbos, achieved 327mpg – not bad when you consider that the average car has an MPG of just 40!
