On Wednesday 6 March Charlotte Duffus, Jack Scaife, Justin Behag and Alicia Pearson attended an “Uncovering Medical School” event at the Hull-York Medical School, at the Hull campus. During the day the students received an informative talk about the routes into medical school at The University, as well as top tips for securing an interview.
They were then taken on a tour of the campus, visiting the all new Allam Medical facility, which is a fantastic, modern building, fully equipped with a replica of a fully equipped hospital ward.
In the afternoon students experienced “problem based learning,” an approach used at The University Medical School, led by some existing medical students. Following this they were able to get hands on and perform some physiology tests on each other.
It was an eye opening experience for the students and I, and a few of them commented that they would be considering HYMS as one of their 4 choices when they come to apply later this year.
