On 14-17 February, Cottingham High School students performed to packed audiences showcasing their singing, dancing and acting talents in the stage musical Grease.

In doing so, the students from Years 7 through to 13 clearly defined the cult characters live on stage, from the too-cool-for-school “Burger Palace Boys” stealing hub-caps and acting tough to their gum-snapping hot-to-trot “Pink Ladies” in their bobby sox and pedal pushers. This 1950s high school musical was electrifying as the actors perfectly played homage to the idealism of the fifties and satire of a high schoolers’ age-old desire to be cool, provocative and rebellious. The whole gang sang and danced through such hit songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "We Go Together”, and “Mooning”, recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley, all which became the soundtrack for a generation.

It was a true pleasure to work with such inspirational students, who not only worked hard to produce a fantastic performance but worked as a team, learning and developing skills in the process and taking roles of responsibility to gain full ownership of a shared goal.
