Year 10 Engineering students recently took part in an exciting workshop. They were first told about a new in-patient facility for young people with mental health concerns, and then asked to help design the facility. They had to consider how the building design and interiors can support mental health, and create a feeling of being safe; what would make it more comforting and promote a feeling of safety. There was then an opportunity to use mood boards with a variety of mediums, such as lego, plastercine and swatches.
The Architects commented on how well the students took to the activities and were very impressed with the level of creativity that the students demonstrated.
We have been invited to the opening of the unit later on this year, where students will have a tour and take part in a game of hide and seek in order to find any weaknesses in the design and layout of the interior spaces.
