Religious Studies

The Key Stage 5 course in Religious Studies widens the philosophical and ethical aspects of the subject area to embrace a wide spectrum of topics ranging from modern day ethical decisions to defining concepts related to the creation of the universe and whether miracles can really happen.

Students begin to become critical thinkers enabling them to study texts and academic theory and analyse counter arguments helping them develop their research skills. This type of work gives a broad foundation to the study skills encountered in many undergraduate courses and gives students valuable experience for not only philosophical and humanities based courses but also for areas such as law. The qualification is one of the fastest growing AS courses and is an ideal grounding for those seeking careers in the Public Services, Teaching, Journalism or Law.

Those wanting to study the AQA Religious Studies course will have the options of examining areas related to Religion and Philosophy, New Testament and Religion and Ethics. There are a growing number of opportunities for students outside the classroom with current Year 12 being given the chance to visit Rome in 2010.
