Product Design: Graphic Products and Resistant Materials

This course allows you to build on the skills you have developed within GCSE Design and Technology courses involving the design and manufacture of high quality products and the application of advanced knowledge of materials and processes. This is an exciting course that will challenge and equip you with the essential skills for future careers and learning in the fields of product design and manufacture.

During the first two terms of the course you will design and manufacture a range of products with a graphic products and resistant materials foci. Conceptual design will incorporate products such as packaging, product/industrial design, point of sale display and vehicle design, with built environment products incorporating architecture, interior design, exhibition design, theatre sets and garden design. The best of the analysis, design, and manufacturing evidence produced during this time will form a portfolio of creative skills contributing 6096 to your total AS marks.

Following completion of your portfolio you will choose to specialise in either Graphic Products or Resistant Materials Technology. You will then prepare for the second unit of work, Design and Technology in Practise, consisting of a one hour thirty minute examination.
Students who have previously undertaken this course have gone on to complete higher-level qualifications in the fields of product design, interior design, graphic design, architecture and engineering.
