Music Technology
The course involves the study of popular music with the emphasis on the use of music technology. The course includes instruction in the art of recording and manipulating sound in a variety of different situations with a variety of different resources. It is a mainly practical course with 70% of its marks being allocated for coursework.
You will be required to produce a high quality multi-track recording of a famous pop song utilising a variety of recording techniques and effects. At AS level you will also sequence two pieces of music using computer software. Listening and analysis work is also included which leads to a written exam at the end of the course. At A2 level you will sequence a known pop song chosen by the board using computer software to create an exact copy of the original for use as a backing track. You will also compose a piece of music to one of four briefs. There is a formal practical test at the end of the course.
If you wish to pursue further education in Music or Music technology or a career in radio/television broadcasting or performing arts then this qualification will be an asset to you.
