Modern Foreign Languages – French and German

These courses will develop your ability to communicate effectively in French or German and give you a deeper understanding of how people live and use the language on a day-to-day basis.

At AS level you build on what you have learned at GCSE and study the language via the four broad themes of media, popular culture, relationships and lifestyle. At A2 level you will cover a wide range of interesting topics such as the environment, multicultural society and contemporary social Issues.

Language studies offer opportunities to broaden horizons, to experience other cultures from the inside and to acquire increased confidence through work placements and exchanges. Linguist careers include law, journalism, retail management, sales and marketing, advertising and PR, EU translating and interpreting, banking, accountancy, speech therapy, and teaching. Languages may be studied at university level in combination with a very wide range of subjects including law, engineering, maths, business, marketing, theatre studies and international relations.
