The combined English Language and Literature course offers you the best of both worlds. You will study an interesting and exciting range of predominantly modern texts, including ‘The Kite Runner” and Alan Bennett’s “The History Boys”. The course will give you the opportunity to analyse literature in depth, looking at aspects of the writer’s art such as narrative viewpoint and use of language. However, there will also be the chance to produce texts of your own, enabling you to exercise your creative talents and show off your originality and flair!

In class, you will be encouraged to engage fully with the texts, exploring or challenging others’ viewpoints, developing the confidence and expertise to make informed evaluations of your own. The course is challenging, but for those who enjoy doing more than simply reading a text, it is an enjoyable and hugely rewarding experience.
