This is a course open to anyone with an interest in literature and the ancient world – previous study of the subject is not required. It involves the study of the works of the major Green and Roman authors in English translation. In a nutshell Classical Civilisation is an all embracing Humanities subject giving you an experience of literature, current history, drama, philosophy, psychology and sociology! You will also look at the concepts of myth, legend, satire and drama as well as the political, religious and social conditions of the classical world. You will quickly realise the debt that modern society owes to all classical age.

Classical Civilisation provides an all round ‘Humanities’ subject and is a perfect compliment to other Arts and Humanities subjects. It is one of the fastest growing university degree subjects and can lead to anything – e.g. Accountancy, ICT, Armed Forces, Civil Service, Marketing or even Teaching.
