Welcome to Cottingham High School.
Cottingham High School is a large academy based in the East Riding of Yorkshire with over 1200 students, including 200 in our thriving Sixth Form which is part of ‘The Consortium’ a partnership between ourselves, Hessle High and Wolfreton schools.
We place significant importance on creating a caring and supportive environment for all our students where every child really does matter. We pride ourselves on our inclusivity and we have a strong reputation for providing excellent pastoral care and guidance throughout all years, including the Sixth Form. We strive for excellence in all that we do, whether that is in standards of academic attainment, uniform or behaviour. Our parents provide excellent support for all our endeavours and we have a very active Parent and Staff Association (PSA) which always welcomes new members.
We’re proud of our past and the strengths that have made our school what it is. We combine these with a forward thinking approach and place teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do. We are increasingly focussed on developing outstanding teaching across the academy and we recognise, nurture and celebrate all our students’ differing talents and gifts, academic, sporting and artistic.
Striving for excellence in everything we do
Whether it is investing in the latest teaching methods and technologies, training our teachers to the highest standards or getting involved in extra sporting and media and performing arts events, we aim to excel in everything we do.
We strive to give each of our students the best education. We are here to enrich their lives and inspire their minds; to encourage their success; to prepare them for adult life and to give them every opportunity to reach their full potential.
An environment that encourages and inspires
Our students engage in learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom. They can express their creativity in our media and performing arts and challenge themselves through sports. They can choose from our varied range of extra-curricular enhancement and enrichment to develop their individual interests and talents. They can experience places they’ve never been to before on our regular school trips to destinations including Iceland and New York.
We are always looking to better the way our students can learn through the latest technologies.
Our Media Arts and IT centres are equipped with 450 IT workstations and over 300 student laptops. We also have modern production facilities that include Macbooks, a recording studio and professional standard software. Our well-stocked library features networked computers and a huge range of books, journals and magazines.
See our Facilities page to find out more.
Giving new students a head start
We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be daunting for any child. We are here to make sure the process is as smooth as possible.
Before the big day, our Transition Co-ordinator visits local primary schools to get to know Year 6 students, answer their questions and relieve any concerns that they may have.
In July, we welcome Year 6 students to our Induction Day. This helps them to get to know our surroundings and get a feel for day-to-day life here. Each new student and their parents also has an opportunity for an interview with the Head of Year 7, prior to starting at school.
We also invite Year 6 students to take part in our Sports Partnership and Media and Performing Arts events. Some students will have the chance to come to one of our Summer Schools.
